National Energy Partners and KDC Solar Launch 8-Megawatt Solar Project

Updated: Jun 6, 2019

Mount Laurel, New Jersey, June 16, 2011 – Siegfried (USA), Inc., a manufacturer of active pharmaceutical drug substances in Pennsville, New Jersey, celebrated on June 14 the beginning of a Solar Energy Partnership Project with National Energy Partners, LLC based in Mount Laurel and KDC Solar, LLC based in Bedminster.

The project will involve the installation of an 8-megawatt solar photovoltaic system on Siegfried’s property. The solar panels, which convert sunlight into electricity, are so-called solar trackers that tilt the panels throughout the day to take advantage of early morning and late afternoon sunshine. These trackers substantially increase the total amount of power produced by the solar system.

Dr. Walter Kittl, General Manager of Siegfried (USA), Inc. told a gathering of county and local dignitaries and Siegfried employees, “On average 80% of Siegfried’s energy needs will be met with this system. However, during peak summer hours the solar panels will generate 100% of the site’s energy requirements. This has a positive effect on the local energy delivery system because Siegfried does not have to access it during those times.”

Lou Sabec, Managing Partner of National Energy Partners, noted “NEP is proud to be partnering with Siegfried (USA), Inc. and KDC Solar in this significant renewable energy project that will have a direct impact on the local and state economy and will provide clean, renewable energy for Siegfried for many years to come. To know that we are saving our natural resources and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels through the use of solar power is extremely rewarding for us and our partners.”

Solar energy is considered a renewable and clean energy source, which not only preserves our environment but also has become a cost-efficient way to generate electricity. This was pointed out by Tom Lynch of KDC Solar, LLC, who also stated, “In addition to the environmentally-friendly impact of a solar system, our model offers significant cost savings for our electric customers. This in turn makes it more attractive for companies to do business in New Jersey.”

In his closing remarks, Dr. Walter Kittl commented on the positive impact that lower energy costs have on a business. “Siegfried will see a positive impact on the bottom line because energy is a driving factor in the manufacture of pharmaceutical drug substances. In the end, it is about being in business providing good value to our customers and investors and at the same time maintaining or creating good jobs in the local economies where we have a presence. If we can do all that and leave a smaller carbon footprint, I call that a win-win situation.”

It is expected that the solar system will come on line in 2012.
